EMG pickups are for electric guitars. You use an EMG Pickup to increase the variety of sound and distortion when performing with an electric guitar. There are two major types of EMG Pickups. Active EMG Pickups and Passive EMG

Pickups. EMG active pickups usually have a much higher output. Passive EMG pickups have a smaller output. EMG passive pickups have an on-board preamp that lowers the output.
